Sup guys, well i promised to myself that I would make a sb here but being a procrastinator I've put it off till now...

So here's some of my recent pieces, I'm busy in China atm accompanying family members and stuff so don't have as much time as i should to draw but I'll try to do an update after a week or so when I can :)

some unfinished cast drawings:

My first actual "complete" cast drawing, around A1 size, took me around a whole week (spent like 2 days on construction alone :()....had heaps of help from my teacher's along the way...i think i really learnt a lot from this piece:

some not so great/unfinished guache still-life:

hey man. its good to see you post your stuff here, i think i've seen most of this but its good to see again :)

i really like the brush stroke confidence you have in this still life, the thick slabby strokes

there are still bits that looks tad uncertain and could do with more paint but other parts i really enjoy looking at. really nice colours too

it would be great to see some more stuff from your head too

here's a doodle i've been working on...i dunno really what to make of it...something is holding me back from taking it a step further to a more completed stage...also i think my thoughts drifted on to a different track when i was working on the lower body so the design aspects of the head and the body seems sorta awkward :(

An update of an attempt at environment speed painting from ref, i think i went overboard with the textures brushes a bit....and it took me ages so it wasn't much of a "speed" painting

Yea i have the same problem myself, the utter failure of time management, and irony of all my speed paints turing into epic paintings.

Nice work on the cast drawings too.

Hey paperx, the landscape quick paint you got there, try thinking about what the focus is, and 'gesture' the rest.

LAndscape painting is all about gestures, and giving just enough marks to show its surface, without getting too intense into the details like say an anatomy. Try looking at how masters deal with traditional watercolor landscapes. A lot of them are just random strokes, but they get the colors, values right hence creating that illusion.

Hope that speeds things up for ya!

SimpleJay: thanks man, your work is totally stunning, i'm glad we have more and more awesome artists joining our community :)
cwans: thanks so much for the crit man, i'm totally noob to enviros so im just starting off painting things from ref which has lots and lots of detail and yeah....i get carried away :(

anyways here's some updates:

some sp's i did really quickly as warm up (i'm hoping someone can give me crits on my lines actually...as i hate my line weight, quality, confidence..basically everything about the lines i use
Image

and an unfinished oC session with a friend on concept art
we were just messing around with ideas for the current Teen Challenge on Conceptart.org - gothic angel, mine's on the left...i know it looks nothing gothic ... forgot about the topic , im sorta pleased with the legs though, as awkward as they look, they're probably the best legs i've ever drew off the top of my head  and oh yeah, click on the pic to see it bigger and what not.

hey Allan, good to see your becoming a really active member here :D

i can't say for sure but i think line economy leads to line confidence and that probably leads to being able to experiment with line weight and all that shtufff. i'm still pretty crap with line weight.

i think doing fast pose maniacs and drawing people when they are walking around really helped me with line economy, you gotta get stuff down so fast that you have to do so with as few lines as possible. I guess if your taking your time on stuff especially when drawing from life, make sure you are thinking about your lines and making sure they do what you want them to. but i get the feeling i'm talking out my ass, heh, sorry.

i think its easier to work on line work on paper too, even though i'm sure we are all pretty comfortable with a tablet, its still not as perfect as real life. thats what i find anyway.

hope that helps a smidge

Toko: haha thanks :) here's some more for ya!

Well....i did manage to go to AnimFXNZ 2007 and meet Jason Manely...but i think i sorta left a bad impression on him, damn me and my bad nerves....*sigh* :(

The keynotes were really really inspirational though and I would definitely go next year if possible :)

I'll see if the symposium organisers are gonna update their website with the notes from the talks that they took, if they don't I might do like a big jot down of all the notes i took and post it here so everyone can learn from these great inspirational people.
