A Myth: The round up

Postby BronsonBradley » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:21 pm

Hey,

i recently gave that "Jason and the Argonauts" comp a go and was super stoked to discover this community of artists!
I am really keen to start posting up works in progress etc and get some feedback from the pro's and other goodbastards. Here's a first!

Don't really know what i have been thinking, i have been playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption when i find time so that probably had an influence, but i thought it'd be cool to chuck a cowboy on a grizzly and mix cultures a bit by showing him rounding up a couple of hot female rogues who are scantly clad although they are currently high up in the alps. :D
I haven't found a comfortable way to paint yet as i am reasonably knew to this, in this image i have just applied color as if i was painting on paper with acrylic or something, other times i have tried just using black and white values before using adjustment layers to color and paint highlights...Just wanting to give different methods a go!

Nice picture! I like your ability to build up form using tone and light - and I like the overall composition. Also, the way you've drawn that cowboy riding the bear, it looks so believable! Just one small thing that I find a little niggly (and it is only a small niggle); I think the cowboys left shoulder (our left, his right) would probably not have so much light falling on it, given the lighting conditions. Wouldn't his head cast a bit of a shadow on that part?
